Aug 24, 2018 Unlike other versions of Office apps that support VBA, Office 2016 for Mac apps are sandboxed. Sandboxing restricts the apps from accessing resources outside the app container. But then after I googled, I found out that the recommended language for web scraping is Python. I'm still on the VBA side because I dont want to learn a new language if I can get the same result without being struggle and less time. Office 2016 for Mac supports commands such as GrantAccessToMultipleFiles and AppleScriptTask that are not supported in other versions of Office. If your solution targets multiple versions of Office, we recommend that you use conditional compilation.

You can use MAC_OFFICE_VERSION to determine which version of VBA the user is running. The following example shows how to use it in your code.

Note: The '#If Mac' conditional is the same in Office for Mac 2011.

Getting web data using Excel Web Queries

It can automatically detect tables embedded in the web page's HTML. Excel Web queries can also be used in situations where a standard ODBC(Open Database Connectivity) connection gets hard to create or maintain. You can directly scrape a table from any website using Excel Web Queries.

The process boils down to several simple steps (Check out this article):

1. Go to Data > Get External Data > From Web

2. A browser window named “New Web Query” will appear

3. In the address bar, write the web address

6. Press the Import button.

Most of us would use formula's in Excel(e.g. =avg(...), =sum(...), =if(...), etc.) a lot, but less familiar with the built-in language - Visual Basic for Application a.k.a VBA.
